Junior Program

Our Junior Program provides elite instructional programming in a fun-filled environment, grounded in the fundamental principles of etiquette, integrity and sportsmanship.  While offering a top-quality learning experience for newcomers of any age and skill level, BT’s Junior Program is designed to consistently, comprehensively and continuously develop young beginners and enable them to achieve their full potential as high school tournament players.

*ANNUAL JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR PROGRAMS*

Level 1 – Using red foam ball, the1-hour Level 1 class for beginners uses a 36-foot court, and works on the basic motor fundamentals of tennis such as balance and movement. Emphasized are proper handling of a racket, building rallies through throwing and catching, counting tasks, learning to keep score and tapping the ball.

Level 2 – Using red foam ball and continuing on the 36-foot court, the 1-hour Level 2 class teaches each basic stroke with a simple grip. Players focus on building rallies and understanding tennis concepts (e.g. balls in or out).

Level 3 – Introducing the 78-foot court and using orange ball, concentration in Level 3 is centered on finishing the swing, learning longer strokes, coordinating swings in all forms, directing the ball, keeping score and understanding the rules of the game. Spin and volleys are also introduced. Students begin to learn tennis etiquette as well as the importance of integrity and sportsmanship to the game.

Level 4 – Using Green Dot ball, the Level 4 class emphasizes competitive skills such as developing full swings combined with the use of spin, coordinating movement of both arms during the serve, changing direction and depth on strokes and moving effectively at different speeds.

Level 5 – Using Green Dot ball, the Level 5 class addresses the refinement of skill both mental and physical including: adopting different stances and strokes based on varying shot types, changing spins and speeds, spin on the serve, improving movement through off-court training and developing tactical game plans.  

Tournament Select – This program is for players with considerable USTA and high school tournament experience. Players must have the approval of Tennis Director Chris Shaya or Junior Program Director Paco Trinidad for entrance to this group.

BT Elite – BT Elite classes are under the direction of Tennis Director Chris Shaya and Junior Program Director Paco Trinidad; invite only.
